Liberal MP Nicolle Flint’s electoral office defaced during climate protest

A Liberal MP’s electoral office has been defaced during an Extinction Rebellion climate change protest.

Climate activists have defaced Liberal MP Nicolle Flint’s office in what she says is an effort to “intimidate and harass” her.

The Extinction Rebellion group staged a protest at Ms Flint’s Anzac Highway electoral office at about 4pm on Monday, writing slogans on the front of the building and the footpath as peak hour traffic passed.

The office had to be closed to the public and police were called to the scene.

Ms Flint said it was the third time Extinction Rebellion protesters had targeted her office, but the first time they had done so during working hours.

“It’s highly disruptive to surrounding businesses and it’s clear they intend to continue the intimidation and harassment started by GetUp and the unions and the Labor Party against me at the last election,” Ms Flint said.

“They claim they’re nonviolent and involved in peaceful protest, but defacing public property is not peaceful protest.”

Extinction Rebellion SA spokeswoman Anna Slynn said spray chalked was used on the building which could be “wiped off with a piece of paper towel”.

“This is not about defacing property, this is about trying to draw attention to an issue that is specifically targeted at the government itself,” Ms Slynn said.

“Her feeling intimidated and harassed is something we’re willing to risk for the sake of the planet.”

The activist group also recently wrote on the electoral office of Finance Minister Simon Birmingham.
