A grandson who allegedly attempted to traffic in 8kg of cocaine - worth as much as $3.2 million - has been ordered to stand trial.
Kosta Pehlivanidis, 31 of Flinders Park appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to a charge of a count of attempting to traffic in a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug.
A fortnight ago, Alex Scott, for Mr Pehlivanidis had told the court he was considering arguing his client had no case to answer, but on Monday said his client conceded he did have a case to answer.
Mr Pehlivanidis was arrested alongside his 82-year-old grandmother Eudoxia Pehlivanidis at the Flinders Park home they shared in February last year.
The charge against Mrs Pehlivanidis, who the court was previously told had “significant dementia”, has since been withdrawn and she is no longer charged with any alleged criminal offending.
Court documents allege the delivery person was directed to leave the package at the rear of her premises before police attended several hours later and found Mr Pehlivanidis and his grandmother with the open package.
The court has previously heard police had intercepted an 8kg package of cocaine – worth up to $3.2 million – and replaced it with an inert substance before conducting a “controlled delivery” at the Flinders Park home.
Mr Pehlivanidis will next appear in the District Court for arraignment in May.
