Kooyonga Golf Club announced as 2027 LIV Golf host taking over from Grange ahead of move to North Adelaide in 2028

The Premier has announced the next golf club to host the LIV Golf tournament in 2027, ending Grange’s reign as tournament host before the move to North Adelaide.

Kooyonga Golf Club has been announced as the host of LIV Golf Adelaide in 2027 just months after Grange Golf Club members raised dissatisfaction over the massive event.

The Lockleys course will host the popular event for one year only as LIV Golf tees off at Grange for the last time in 2026.

The redeveloped North Adelaide Golf Course will be the new home for LIV Golf Adelaide from 2028.

Premier Peter Malinauskas described LIV Golf as an “economic success” for South Australia, bringing more than $217 million in economic benefit in its first three years, and said securing Kooyonga as the next host “continues that momentum”.

“LIV Golf is more than just a sporting event — it’s a platform to promote South Australia’s food, wine and lifestyle to a national and international audience, and to fill our hotels, restaurants and small businesses with visitors who return year after year,” he said.

“Australians have embraced LIV Golf, and our partnership with LIV Golf through to at least 2031 means we’ll continue to see the benefits of that success flow through to our tourism sector, our hospitality industry and our broader economy.”

Kooyonga Golf Club captain Geoff Brennan said the club was “proud” to be hosting LIV Golf in 2027.

“This is a rare opportunity for our club, members and our staff, and we are very much looking forward to creating memorable experiences for everyone involved,” Mr Brennan said.

Despite the excitement of LIV Golf’s future in the state, members of Grange Golf Club revealed their dissatisfaction at the continued use of the exclusive club and greens following this year’s event.

More than 102,000 people attended the 2025 event, members saying the disruption was too significant and event infrastructure caused too much damage to the course.

Leaked correspondence to Grange members, revealed by The Advertiser in July, said for the club to consider a contract extension to include the 2027 event, it would require a vote of members, and “significant capital contribution”.

Mr Brennan said there was anticipated to be a ten day closure of Kooyonga’s course to members while the event was on, and played down claims of a petition to not hold the event.

The announcement comes as papers tabled in London for the year ending December 31 2024 reveal that the SA event made up 40 per cent of LIV Golf’s revenue last year.

LIV Adelaide accounted for $26m of the tour’s $65m in revenue, while LIV Golf Ltd was revealed to have lost $461m USD in 2024, up from $396m the previous year.

Off the back of LIV Golf’s financial haemorrhaging, the Opposition has called on the government to reveal the Adelaide competition’s security post 2027.

“The Opposition supports LIV Golf and the economic boost it brings to South Australia, but given reports of the company’s massive losses, we’re calling on the government to immediately reveal if the future of the Adelaide tournament is secure and whether it will still proceed with the redevelopment of the North Adelaide Golf Course,” Opposition Government Accountability spokesman Ben Hood said.
