Homegrown Hollywood star Joel Edgerton has started work on a new film in Adelaide this week, which is tipped to create more than 500 jobs for the state.

Edgerton, who is also the partner of Adelaide-born Vogue Australia fashion director Christine Centenera, will be joined by his co-star in The King, Sean Harris in the original feature film The Unknown Man which will shoot at locations across Adelaide and the state.

Helmed by writer/director Thomas Wright, the crime thriller will create more than 500 jobs for cast and crew – including roles for some 380 extras – in South Australia.

South Australian Film Corporation CEO Kate Croser said she was delighted to welcome Academy Award-winning production companies See-Saw Films and Anonymous Content to SA.

“Such a high profile, major production as this is not only a boon for local crew, talent and screen service providers from right across the sector, it further cements South Australia’s international reputation as an attractive and COVID-safe location for filming and production,” she said.

The Unknown Man is the story of two strangers, Henry and Mark who meet and strike up a friendship. But what Henry doesn’t know is that Mark is a seasoned undercover officer working to convict Henry for an unsolved murder committed years earlier.

It’s another example of SA capitalising on our COVID-free status. Ms Croser revealed to the Sunday Mail earlier this month SAFC has been fielding requests from across the world looking to shoot in our backyard.

“With the SAFC’s Adelaide studios facilities back open for business, we know that there is currently as much as $1.2bn worth of footloose production around the world looking for a new home,” she said.

“And with SA one of the safest places in the world right now, and one of the first places in the world to have resumed screen production after COVID delays, we are attracting global interest as a really attractive location for filming and production.”
