JETTY Road traders at Glenelg will be celebrating the reopening of the iconic thoroughfare to traffic a week ahead of schedule.
JETTY Road traders at Glenelg will be celebrating the reopening of the iconic thoroughfare to traffic a week ahead of schedule.
The tram upgrade was on track to be completed on Thursday evening and the road will be open from Saturday, according to the Transport Department.
The road closure to vehicles has significantly impacted businesses but the $3.7m project has taken 19 days, seven fewer than expected.
SA Water will soon begin upgrading 700m of mains pipes along the road but the work, expected to take ten weeks, will be held at night and any road closures should be brief.
Tram services between Brighton Road (Stop 15) and Moseley Square (Stop 17) will resume from first service on Saturday, following a successful test running on Thursday.
Adelaide Metro bus services in the area will also return to their usual routes.
The department said the track replacement on Jetty Road would improve “the reliability and safety’’ of the tram services and make the journey “smoother for passengers and reduce noise’’.
It has also thanks road users, public transport passengers and traders for their “patience’’.
It was estimated traders’ turnover had dropped between 20 and 90 per cent during the road closure.
