Travellers flock to the airport for their flights for fourth straight day

Travellers have flocked to the Adelaide Airport for the fourth straight day and been met with another morning of long lines.

The school holiday travel rush is far from over with the Adelaide Airport terminal overflowing with travellers on Monday morning and three flights cancelled before 8am.

Security checkpoints were under the pump as queues snaked through the terminal – not for the first time in the past few days.

One male traveller said processing his bag drop took more than two hours for his Jetstar Airlines flight.

A Jetstar spokeswoman said there were no delays related to their service.

An airport spokesman said Adelaide Airport had no issues with its baggage handling system on Monday morning.

Three Virgin Australia departure flights – two to Melbourne and one to Sydney – were cancelled on Monday.

An Adelaide Airport spokesman said he anticipated around 100,000 passengers would pass through the terminal by Friday.

“This morning the lines for check in and security were moving well, and all of our security lanes were open,” the spokesman said.

“We thank our customers for heeding the message to arrive early, and for being patient and courteous towards our staff who are working hard to get them on to their flight and off on holidays.”

He said the airport will be busy right through the school holidays.

“This Friday (15 July) is likely to be our busiest day of the school holidays, slightly eclipsing last Friday’s mark,” he said.

Passengers are advised to arrive two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights.
