Jessica Adamson is looking forward to sharing a first with our readers in an exciting new role with The Advertiser.
While the former Channel 7 news presenter has worked in the media for 30 years, she has never been a columnist.
But that’s about to change now that Adamson is joining us as part of a fresh line-up of local identities writing columns for our new-look opinion page.
“It’s going to be a privilege to share my thoughts and insights on the things that I care about most in our community,” Adamson, who is a mum of three, said.
“Hopefully I will make people laugh from time to time but, most importantly, it’s about sparking people to have a conversation about important issues in South Australia.”
Regular columnists David Penberthy, Michael McGuire, Samantha Maiden, Caleb Bond, Rex Jory and Andrew Bolt will be back.
Other new recruits include former Socceroo and director of football at Adelaide United Bruce Djite and Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor.
Djite will be contributing through his role as chief executive of the Committee for Adelaide.
“I look forward to sharing the Committee for Adelaide’s ideas and advocating for the future of the state, because we are all keen to see SA fulfil its potential,” he said.
The Advertiser’s senior journalist Rebecca Whitfield-Baker is returning as a columnist, while digital reporter Emily Olle will be a voice for the Millennials.
The team is a diverse group, but the columnists all have one thing in common – a passion for South Australia and its people, and a desire to see them thrive.
The new-look opinion page starts on Tuesday and Adamson, who now runs her own media consulting firm, has penned her first column. In demand as an MC, Adamson is writing about a woman she met at an event who has not only turned her troubled life around but become a role model.
“Through my business I am regularly out and about hosting events and meeting fascinating people from all walks of life,” Adamson said.
“Her story took me by surprise. It’s really inspiring and I am really keen to share it with everyone.”
