The family of Brevet Sergeant Jason Doig say they remember the fallen police officer’s generosity, commitment and passion every day.
Brett Doig issued a statement to The Advertiser on behalf of himself, his brother Greg, mother Faye Edwards and her husband Rob as the family prepares to commemorate 12 months since Sgt Doig was shot dead while attending a late-night call-out in Senior, north of Bordertown.
“The grief and loss as 12 months approaches is so acute, like the first Christmas missed, the first birthday missed, the first Father’s and Mother’s Days marked without a son,” the statement says.
“But it’s in the everyday where the loss is greatest. Jason will never be able to answer a phone call, congratulate a colleague or say I’ll be there quick to help out.
“Every day we remember Jason’s generosity, commitment to community, and passion to make the next day just that little bit better for those people around him whether that be a stranger, community member, a colleague or his family and friends.”
On November 17 last year, Sgt Doig became the first SA officer in four decades to die from a shooting in the line of duty. Local Jaydn Stimson, 26, is charged with murdering Sgt Doig.
Mr Stimson, 26, last appeared in Court in September via video link from James Nash House – where he has been held since the shooting.
A T20 cricket match in Lucindale on Sunday will pay tribute to Sgt Doig, the one-cop town’s longest-serving officer.
