It's 10 years since young Sturt footballer Josh Deegan died after the first Bali bombings

DAYS before Sturt footballer Josh Deegan left for Bali, he was at the Austral, watching his brother Nick perform with his band, Foreshore.

A supportive brother and one of the band's biggest fans, Josh hardly missed a chance to watch them play.

This Friday, exactly 10 years since Josh was killed in the 2002 terrorist attacks at Bali's Sari nightclub, Nick Deegan will bring his band together for a concert in honour of his brother and to raise funds for the Royal Adelaide Hospital burns unit.

"Josh was really into Foreshore, he liked the music so I thought, `it's the only way I would know how to do anything as far as charity goes'," Mr Deegan, of Kensington, says.

For Mr Deegan, it feels strange knowing it has been 10 years since he lost Josh.

But he doesn't need to look at a calendar to know when the anniversary is coming around.

"I don't know, I think I just change a little bit, something kind of creepy happens to me," the 30-year-old physiotherapist and law student says.

"I just get this kind of feeling, this sense of something comes over me and I question myself every time and then I realise, 'Oh hang on, it's coming up to October 12, this is probably pretty normal'."

In June, he went to Bali with his family and girlfriend to visit the memorial site for the third time.

"Each time it is weird, you hop off the plane and it's got that feel to it, it's got that smell, it brings something back into your head," he said.

"We went back to the memorial and saw the Sari Club ... said a few prayers, had our own little time out and had a bit of a tear."

Dealing with grief in the public eye was difficult for Mr Deegan and his family. Still now, people see his last name and ask if he is related to "the Deegan boy who died in Bali".

"I'm used to it now, it's a fact of life," he says.

"You still have certain days where ... it all gets a bit much. You just remember weird things, a look on your mum's face ...

"Most of the time you just get on with it."

Mr Deegan says he is looking forward to getting on stage with his bands Foreshore and Galleon.

"The night is just about fans of the bands, family members, friends, anyone ... it's gonna be a pretty light-hearted evening ... for a good cause."
