Outgoing Boothby MP Nicolle Flint has launched a blistering attack on Labor leader Anthony Albanese in her final address to parliament, urging him to make good on his promise to stamp out sexist and misogynistic behaviour from the left wing of politics.

Ms Flint, who is quitting parliament at the next federal election, said it was “tempting” to describe Mr Albanese with a “simple four letter word (that) begins with L and ends in R”.

Quoting country pop group The Chicks, the Liberal MP declared she was “not ready to make nice and I’m not ready to back down”, before questioning Mr Albanese’s status as a “leader”.

“The left of politics as a whole needs to act – and that action need to start right in this place with the leader of the opposition,” Ms Flint said in a fiery and emotional speech.

She accused Mr Albanese for failing to act after she made speeches and wrote letters to him raising concerns about poor behaviour from the left wing and Labor figures.

Ms Flint last year announced she was quitting parliament after being the victim of vile abuse, which included “men on the left” who she said stalked her and urged her to kill herself.

In some instances, Ms Flint said the men suggested she should be “raped” and “grudge f--ked”.

“Last March, in response to an emotional speech given by me in this place, (Mr Albanese) told the Press Gallery and the Australian people that he would act when sexist and misogynistic behaviour was drawn to his attention,” Ms Flint said in parliament on Wednesday.

“Well, he hasn’t, despite the further speeches given in this place, the letters I have written to him and the numerous newspaper reports since last December when online attacks on me reached a disgusting new low of sexism and misogyny.

“It’s tempting to describe the leader of the opposition with a simple word – a four-letter word. It begins with L and ends in R, but that would be unparliamentary, so I won’t.”

Ms Flint revealed she had written two versions of her valedictory speech but the first was “a little too angry” to deliver.

“I’m happy to take suggestions as to whether you like the angry version or not – but maybe you can buy the book eventually instead,” Ms Flint said, hinting at a future book about her time in parliament.

Mr Albanese declined to comment on Ms Flint’s remarks.

Both major parties are fielding female candidates in Boothby, the state’s most marginal electorate. Liberal candidate Rachel Swift will take on Labor’s Louise Miller-Frost, while prominent arts figure Jo Dyer is standing as an independent.
