Iconic Donald Bradman statue outside Adelaide Oval dons a cricket jumper ahead of Ashes test

IT may have felt like 99.94C in Adelaide this week, but it hasn’t stopped a passer-by helping the Sir Donald Bradman statue into something a little less comfortable.
The iconic Australian batsman has stood sentinel outside Adelaide Oval since 2002, but sometime between Wednesday and Thursday, someone decided it needed an authentic Aussie touch.
Despite Adelaide heading towards a high of 34C, the statue was adorned in an Australian cricket jumper — similar to the one at the State Library of South Australia.
It may be an astute touch as the mercury plummets to 21C on Friday, before dropping to 19C on Saturday — the opening day of the second Ashes test.
The $115,000 statue has been a quintessential destination for tourists to South Australia after it was unveiled outside Adelaide Oval on February 25, 2002 — a year after the legend passed away.
Designed by Adelaide artist Robert Hannaford, it stands around 2.5 metres high on a 1.5 metre stone plinth.
