ICAC announces starting date for anti-corruption probe into SafeWork SA

AN anti-corruption inquiry into SafeWork SA will probe the safety watchdog’s practices, policies and procedures, Independent Commissioner Against Corruption Bruce Lander has announced.

AN anti-corruption inquiry into SafeWork SA will probe the safety watchdog’s practices, policies and procedures, Independent Commissioner Against Corruption Bruce Lander has announced.

Mr Lander will hold the first open hearing into SafeWork SA on June 1, following a number of complaints and reports about the agency over the last five years.

In a statement yesterday, Mr Lander said his inquiry would focus on the tasks carried out by SafeWork SA employees, the powers given to inspectors and investigators, and the organisation’s practices, policies and procedures.

It comes one week after Mr Lander announced he would hold a public anti-corruption inquiry into SafeWork SA, announcing its intent to consider whether “improvements can be made to minimise the potential for corruption, misconduct or maladministration” within the agency.

The inquiry was welcomed by the grieving widows of two men killed in workplace accidents. Both Pam Gurner-Hall and Deb Wyatt had both previously publicly hit out at SafeWork SA’s investigations into the deaths of their husbands at the Royal Adelaide Hospital construction site.
