A man from Burra has scored big for Christmas after landing the $50 million winning lottery ticket.
The winner was ‘shell-shocked’ at his luck after a chance check at his entry drawn on Tuesday, according to The Lott spokesperson.
“I just checked the ticket. Oh my god!,” the winner said.
“I can’t believe it. I was just saying to myself this morning, $50,000 would be all right heading into Christmas but $50 million!”.
Officials had to wait for the winner to come forward to claim his prize, unable to contact the him directly as he wasn’t registered with Lott Members Club.
The ‘overwhelmed’ Burra man confessed hasn’t made firm plans on how he’d invest his winnings.
“I’ll treat myself and help my family, ” he said.
“I don’t think I’ll work again. I think my work days are done.”
The winning ticket ‘1608’ was purchased at the Burra Terry White Chemmart, being the only South Australian division one winning entry in the national Oz Lotto draw.
Retail manager Kelly Bray said she was celebrating her outlet selling the first division one winning entry.
“It’s such big news for our pharmacy and for Burra,” Ms Bray said.
“I’m so stoked for our winner and wish him all the very best with his prize.”
This will be South Australia’s second-biggest win after an Adelaide man scooped the $150 million Powerball prize in May earlier this year, which was also Australia’s biggest individual lottery winner.
SA has also won 29 out of the 418 division one winning tallies from the Lott recorded in 2024 so far.
The winning numbers in Oz Lotto draw 1608 on Tuesday were 1, 29, 20, 23, 34, 46 and 39, while the supplementary numbers were 42, 43 and 24.
