More than 100 people are still without power after a widespread outage in the state’s north-west left several thousand in the dark at one point.

SA Power Networks crews are working to restore power in 110 homes across Backy Point, Douglas Point, Douglas Point South, False Bay, Fitzgerald Bay, and Port Bonython.

Crews are now heading to the area with power expected to return around 3pm on Friday.

Earlier today, hundreds across the state’s north were also impacted by sudden outages in Bruce, Quorn, Stephenston, and Willochra.

The sudden outage was caused by a build-up of salt and dust “caused by the prolonged dry period,” on SA Power Networks infrastructure.

SA Power Networks external affairs manager Cecilia Schutz said that crews had been mobilised from other regions to restore power to customers “as soon as possible.”

“We know that outages, particularly in the holiday period, are very frustrating for households, businesses and tourists,” she said.

“Our crews are working to identify and restore faults, and we are providing SMS updates to subscribed customers”.

Around 2,000 residents were impacted by the outage which The Advertiser understands occurred earlier on Friday morning.

A large quantity of those affected in the Leigh Creek area were a result of faults on ElectraNet’s transmission network.
