Sporting organisations are now being invited to dip into another bucket of funding, less than a week after the government announced millions to build them up.

Less than a week after handing out $24m in infrastructure grants to sporting clubs and organisations across South Australia, another $20.6m is now up for grabs.

From today, South Australian sport and recreation organisations have another chance to apply for their share in the government’s investment in sporting facilities.

Sport Minister Corey Wingard said funds would mean South Australians could continue to access quality recreation and sport activities and facilities.

“This week is part of the biggest ever investment in grassroots sport in the state’s history,” he said.

The biggest spend in the Infrastructure Projects 2021-22 grant programs is the Grassroots Facilities Program Round 2; $10 million.

The guidelines state it should be targeted by groups who have an idea which will increase sport participation and improve gender equality to “support healthier, happier and safer communities”.

Guidelines for the Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program — which has $5.6m available — state that it should be targeted by groups which can make a strong case for “sustainable, functional, inclusive and fit-for-purpose active recreation and sport facilities”.

And guidelines for the Regional and Districts Facilities Program Round 2; $5m, are targeted at creating good open spaces in regional areas, and cutting the cost of participating in sport for clubs and individuals.

“The projects funded to date will deliver more than $57m in project value across 39 different sports and many recreational activities.

“I’m excited to build on this momentum and continue to provide support in this area by giving the sport and recreation community another opportunity to share in a multimillion-dollar cash boost.

“When our clubs win, everybody wins, as we see time and time again that the development of core infrastructure, community hubs and well-designed facilities increases participation rates in sport and recreation activities.

Eligible sport and recreation groups and local councils who wish to update their sporting facilities, are encouraged to apply before August 4 this year.

Mr Wingard said they should focus on how their project promotes multi-use/multi-user experiences and high participation rates from across a region.
