Home invader-chasing ‘Didgeridoo Man’ back in the spotlight in new ad

Adelaide’s favourite crimefighter has got a new role — but this time he’s not chasing down home invaders, he’s smashing fruit and veg prices in a new ad that’s quickly going viral.

Didgeridoo man's amazing ad for fruit and veg shop

Adelaide’s homegrown superhero’s swapped smashing crims for smashing prices — lending his viral acting skills to a Facebook ad for a local fruit and veg shop.

Kym “Didgeridoo Man” Abrook became an instant star this week when he appeared on multiple TV news bulletins recounting — and vibrantly re-enacting — his heroics after confronting a home invader in his Fulham Gardens house at about 4am on Monday.

He rocketed to social media fame after the bulletins aired and quickly grabbed the attention of St Bernards Fruit and Veg Market owner John Kapiris, who’s been making his own crazy social media videos for years.

“I saw this bloke on TV and thought I’ve gotta get into bed with him,” Mr Kapiris told The Advertiser.

“We had a great laugh — he’s just a great Aussie battler and a real showman.”

The homemade ad shows the Didgeridoo Man, in all his shirtless mulletted glory, running into Mr Kapiris’ Fulham Gardens shop.

“I’ve come down here to smash some prices,” he declares.

“Well if you want to smash my prices down, get your ass inside my shop,” Mr Kapiris responds.

Asked if he paid Mr Abrook for his services, Mr Kapiris said that wasn’t part of the deal.

“Nah, mate. He’s just like a superhero,” he said

The ad grabbed more than 10,000 views and hundreds of shares within an hour of being posted online this afternoon.

It comes after TV news stations — and then popular social media platforms — fell in love with the Didgeridoo Man’s animated re-enactments of Monday’s frightening encounter.

Multiple news bulletins showed Mr Abrook dressed, like any good superhero, with his undies showing, sprinting down his street wielding a didgeridoo — just as he did when his home was invaded.

His acting chops quickly saw his story travel from local to national news.

The suspect, a 32-year-old Fulham Gardens man, was found a short time later by police dog Nero in the driveway of a house along Grange Rd. He was allegedly found in possession of a wallet and cash stolen from Mr Abrook’s home.

The man was arrested and charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and theft.
