Holiday horror at Salt Creek, where two women were alleged attacked

INACCESSIBLE, isolated and eerily quiet apart from the soothing rhythm of the waves, Tea Tree Point beach should be a relaxation haven. On Tuesday night, it was anything but.

INACCESSIBLE, isolated and eerily quiet apart from the soothing rhythm of the waves, Tea Tree Point beach should be a relaxation haven.

Reachable only by 4WD for a couple of months of the year towards the end of summer, visitors must pass a dried up lagoon and steep sandy hills just to reach the beach.

But those willing to take the effort are rewarded with kilometres of sandy beaches and superb

fishing as far as the eye can see.

But to the scarce few who camped along the beach on Tuesday, that tranquillity was shattered when a backpacker ran naked towards a group of fishermen.

Three fishing rods, Eskys, fold-up chairs and a half empty bottle of coke set the scene of a typical camping holiday.

But a twisted, oddly placed shoe subliminally warns something very wrong, and twisted, has happened here.

About a kilometre away, a vehicle splattered with blood is parked half way up a sand dune.

The campsite and the car, now crime scenes, are kilometres from the beach entrance and far enough for fellow campers not to hear any screams.

It’s further still from Salt Creek — the nearest civilisation in the form of a road house.

One of those campers, a fisherman, wanting to escape the stress of the city for a few days, told The Advertiser of the terror of the alleged attack.

He said that as the woman escaped her alleged attacker, he sealed the exits so he couldn’t escape and called police.

For the dozen or so campers determined to escape the rat race, their safe haven has seemingly become more like Wolf Creek than the nearby Salt Creek.
