The man killed in a horrific crash in Adelaide’s inner-west on Tuesday afternoon has been identified as 58-year-old Kym Liebig.
The father and motorbike racer was travelling along South Road at Hindmarsh, near the entrance to the North-South Motorway, when he collided with a car northbound lane, around 3.50pm.
Mr Liebig of Golden Grove died at the scene, marking the second life lost on our state’s road in just a week since the new year.
His wife, Prudence Liebig, took to social media to share her heartbreak over the tragic incident.
“Yesterday afternoon, while coming home to me, my darling Kym was killed,” Ms Liebig wrote.
“He is gone. I am broken.”
Mr Liebig’s nephew Benn Liebig remembered Kym as someone who had a “wicked sense of humour, tons of passion and a big ol’ heart”.
“An advocate for road racing, lover of all things motorcycling, he had an eye for detail in everything he did,” Benn wrote in a social media post.
“So many more things, but you really don’t get many people like Uncle Kym in your life, so it’s hard to sum up just how great they are no matter how you try to explain them.
“This is one of those times.”
Police said the Commodore was travelling south when it crashed through fencing on the median strip and collided with Mr Liebig’s black Suzuki motorcycle and two other vehicles.
A 44-year-old Park Holme man driving the white Commodore, was arrested by Major Crash officers on Tuesday.
He has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in March.
Police had closed off parts of South Rd in both directions, while emergency services attended to the scene.
The incident brought traffic to a standstill around 5pm, with commuters backed up along Port Road, South Road and West Terrace.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any dashcam can provide their details to police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
