Adelaide’s own Hilltop Hoods will headline next year’s Superloop Adelaide 500 finale concert.
In a move that confirms the hip hop trio’s status as one of the most popular live acts in the country, the Hoods have been locked down as the final act at the Sunday night gig.
The February 23 show will also feature rapper Illy and indie favourite G Flip.
The Sunday concert is the showpiece of the race’s entertainment line-up, with previous headline acts including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Robbie Williams, KISS and Cold Chisel.
It tops off a stellar year for the Hilltop Hoods, who opened for Eminem in front of record crowds, dropped a critically-acclaimed number one record, won an ARIA and sold out stadiums across the country.
Speaking near the end of their Great Expanse world tour, MC Pressure (aka Daniel Smith) said that the Hoods were humbled to be invited to perform at such a popular event in their home town.
“To be asked to headline is an absolute thumbs up,” Pressure said, a sentiment echoed by fellow MC Suffa, aka Matt Lambert.
“We’ve had a ball every time we’ve played,” Suffa said.
“And it’s always so nice to drive home and sleep in your own bed.”
And in good news for Hoods fans, the group has said it has already started work on a follow up to The Great Expanse, slated for release in 2021.
“Once this world tour’s done we’re going to disappear and make some new music – and we get to do that at our own homes, which is great,” Pressure said.
He said parenthood and touring was a balancing act. “Anyone that has kids and works full-time, that’s a big juggle, but going away for a month at a time is incredibly difficult,” he said.
The Friday, Saturday and Sunday after-race concerts will all feature up-and-coming South Australian artists.
