THREE more staff have quit or been sacked in the wake of abuse allegations at the Oakden aged care home, bringing the total to five.

Health Minister Jack Snelling gave updated details to State Parliament on Wednesday, revealing that three people have been fired and two have resigned - both up from one person each at last count.

Mr Snelling also revealed that 34 staff who worked in now-defunct wards at the facility were under investigation by the national health regulator.

That is up from 32 last month.

A further 12 staff are suspended pending internal investigation, down from 15.

The number of people under investigation by SA Police remains at nine.

A report by the Chief Psychiatrist in late April revealed systemic mistreatment of elderly residents at the Oakden facility.

All residents have since moved to private nursing homes or into a refurbished government home at Northgate.

The State Government has committed $14.7 million to establishing a new purpose-built facility.

Mr Snelling said the updated staff numbers were accurate as of August 8.

He reiterated that “these numbers will fluctuate as new information is brought forward”.

“(Law firm) Minter Ellison have been engaged to assist in the industrial relations matters regarding some of the allegations (against staff),” Mr Snelling told Parliament.

“In order to protect the integrity of these investigations, it would be inappropriate for particular details to be disclosed to the House (of Assembly).

“We must be mindful not to jeopardise any of these proceedings as they are taking place.”
