Happy Valley footballer takes home Southern Football League Mail Medal
HAPPY Valley footballer Jonathan Eagleton has claimed a back-to-back win in the Southern Football League's Mail Medal.
HAPPY Valley footballer Jonathan Eagleton has claimed a back-to-back win in the Southern Football League's Mail Medal.
Eagleton scored 29 votes to beat Noarlunga's Christopher Minns (24) and Morphettville Park's Mark Ruwoldt (24) at the count last night.
He also won the award last year.
The Happy Valley A-grade on-baller said the win was bittersweet following the club's preliminary final loss to Reynella on Sunday.
"It's great to be recognised by the league but what we play for is the grand final prize and to miss out this year is very disappointing," Eagleton told the Southern Times Messenger.
Eagleton, a Happy Valley junior, played under-aged football with West Adelaide and then Strathalbyn in the Great Southern Football League.
Reynella's Scott Goldspink and Frank Caiapich tied for the B-grade medal, while Brighton's Ross Tregoning took home the C-grade medal.
Player life memberships were awarded to six players - Morphett Vale's Brayden Bayly, Christies Beach's Brett Andruszkiewicz, Happy Valley's Anthony Huebner, Flagstaff Hill's Saul Abbott, Port Noarlunga's Travis Tedmanson and Reynella's Jason Farrier.
Happy Valley also won the SFL Club of the Year.
Reynella's Gavin Oxenham was awarded the Trainers' Encouragement Award.
