Adelaide’s Lot Fourteen is attracting interest from tech giants overseas, Premier Steven Marshall says. But first a contract has been awarded to make the last of the old buildings new again.

International tech companies are eyeing off a centrepiece innovation centre at Adelaide’s Lot Fourteen as developers work on the best way to link the old with the new.

A contract to refurbish the Bice Building, built in 1927, has been awarded making it the last of six heritage properties to be upgraded.

Hansen Yuncken, that have more recently been upgrading Her Majesty’s Theatre, have been tasked with giving the Bice Building a contemporary fit out and create 2,000 sqm of modern adaptive workspace to attract tenants from sectors including defence and space, cyber security and creative technologies.

The work will include a courtyard canopy connecting the Bice and McEwin Buildings that will offer year-round weather protection for precinct events and visitors to the Australian Space Discovery Centre.

Premier Steven Marshall said the new innovation centre – that was last month opened up to expressions of interest to find a developer to complete its design and then finance, construct and own the building – is already generating interest.

“The strong interest shown by major national and international players is a coup for South Australia and is further evidence that Lot Fourteen is a magnet for business and jobs,” Mr Marshall said.

“It cements my governments strong commitment to create a once in a generation hub that will generate thousands of jobs for South Australians now and into the future.”
