A shocked Adelaide woman said she felt the impact of a young great white shark attacking the jetty underwater at Semaphore beach on Sunday afternoon.
Kylie Douglas photographed the shark before it “attacked” one of the jetty’s poles.
“The picture where it’s heading to the jetty pole was just before he ‘attacked’ it – (his) eyes rolled back and you felt the impact,” she said.
“Absolutely amazing experience!”
The shark was first seen in the shallow waters around 2pm.
Ms Douglas said she was hoping to see one of the seals that frequents the area, but instead was thrilled to see a three to four metre great white circling below.
“I was kind of shocked, I never expected to see a great white there,” she said.
Her images were shared on the Shark Watch SA Facebook page, where it has been viewed by thousands.
The Shark Watch SA admin said in a post that these sightings are rare – but is confident several other people on boats have encountered this same shark over the past two weeks.
“There is a very real possibility that he/she is establishing temporary residency in Adelaide’s metropolitan St Vincent Gulf,” the post said.
