THE Big Wedgie giant inflatable waterslide at Glenelg has broken its moorings and blown away in the high winds.
Georgina Cole, president of the Glenelg Surf Life Saving Club, said staff had evacuated the slide minutes before it blew away and there were not believed to be any injuries.
Police are at the scene, where debris is strewn around the area and fences have been blown over.
Part of the slide — which has deflated — is snagged in a pine tree.
Torrential rain, lightning and thunder swept Adelaide this afternoon after a night of heavy rain.
David Fitzgerald, of Windsor Gardens, was at Glenelg with his two young daughters when the storm hit about 2.20pm.
“The wind was absolutely whipping up from the beach, the rain was blowing sideways,” he said.
“We were sheltering near the Pier Hotel. I looked up and there was a massive Giant Wedgie (waterslide) flying towards us.
“It slammed into the pine trees.”
Mr Fitzgerald said the inflatable slide landed on a Coca Cola trailer.
“There was a man in the trailer, but he crawled out afterwards.”
