A man has been intercepted at Adelaide Airport after police uncovered a gun at a Wingfield business in an investigation into the Comanchero bikie gang.

A man has been arrested at Adelaide Airport after a handgun and ammunition were seized at a Wingfield business under an ongoing bikie investigation.

An investigation into the Comanchero Outlaw Motorcycle Gang led the Crime Gangs Task Force to uncover the weapon, in a vehicle at the property on Friday, July 22.

The firearm, which had a partially removed serial number, and the box of ammunition were seized for forensic examination.

After further investigations a Glenelg man, 38, was arrested at the airport on Friday, July 29 and charged with possessing a firearm while unlicensed, possessing a defaced firearm and fail to store ammunition separately from a firearm.

He did not apply for bail and will face the Adelaide Magistrate Court on Monday.

Detective Chief Inspector Darren Fielke, acting officer in charge of the Serious and Organised Crime Branch urged anyone with any knowledge about the incident or other illegal firearms to contact police.

“Firearms trafficking is a very serious offence and police will continue to investigate and combat the trafficking of firearms with as many resources as are necessary,” he said.

“Illegal firearms have no place in the community and particularly when they are in the hands of criminals.

”This particular handgun is yet to be forensically examined so any details as to the origins of the handgun before it was seized by detectives is unknown at this time.”
