Glen Osmond Road has reopened and power has been restored following a serious crash this morning, where a man, 48, was seriously injured. ️

This comes after emergency services were called to the single-vehicle crash just after 6am.

The man’s Ford Ranger ute flipped onto its roof after crashing into a Stobie pole on Glen Osmond Rd, completely blocking the route into the city from the Adelaide Hills causing morning traffic chaos.

Glen Osmond Road had closed to citybound traffic from Fullarton Road to Greenhill Road. Parkside and motorists were urged to avoid Glen Osmond and find an alternate route into and out of the city.

Traffic started banking up straight after the crash, with several trucks among the vehicles that were left stuck.

However, roads have since reopened.

SA Police said the Adelaide driver suffered serious injuries, but they were not considered life-threatening.

The ute hit a Stobie pole, knocking out power to about 1800 properties in the Eastwood and Parkside area for several hours.

Local residents told The Advertiser power was out on their side road and their usually quiet street had become “Glen Osmond Rd” with traffic redirected.

A man working at the Cappo Seafood factory, just metres from the crash, said he was working upstairs when he heard a massive bang.

He said he believed the car had hit a nearby tree before hitting a Stobie pole.

Another woman working at the site said she heard screams and rushed out to the road side. She believed the vehicle had one male driver who looked to be in his mid-50s.

“He hit it with force,” she said.

“He’s hit a tree … and gone right across the other side.”

She said the man was not speaking but appeared to be “moving slightly”.

MFS Commander of Operations Declan Dwyer said it was believed the car was travelling city-bound down Glen Osmond Rd before the impact forced the vehicle onto the other side of the road.

“Our crews arrived just on sunrise this morning and found a really high-speed impact where a car had hit a Stobie pole and trees, and overturned,” he said.

He said the male driver was semi conscious and described the rescue as technical.

“He was upside down and hanging from his seat belt,” he said.

Mr Dwyer said investigations would be “pretty thorough” with Major Crash officers arriving at the scene on Wednesday morning.

Traffic diversions are set to be in place for hours as the scene is examined.
