Funeral date for Norwood premiership star Nick Lowden revealed

The popular Norwood SANFL premiership player will be farewelled next week.

Popular SANFL premiership star Nick Lowden, 23, who died suddenly last week, will be farewelled at a service next Wednesday.

Lowden will be remembered at a funeral to be held at St Michael’s Catholic Church in Traralgon, Victoria from noon.

The funeral procession will then move to Traralgon Cemetery in Gippsland Memorial Park.

Lowden played for Norwood Football Club in the SANFL for two years after starting his career with the under-19 Talent League team Gippsland Power and the Casey Demons in the Victorian Football League.

He also played with the Darwin Buffaloes in the Northern Territory.

Tributes have continued for Lowden with family friends posting, “Our love to the Lowden family during this hard time. You all mean so so much to us, as did Nick. Love and our deepest sympathies, Abbey Brock xx”.

“Our love to the Lowden family at this very sad and tragic time. We have such beautiful memories of Nick growing up as a St Michael’s schoolboy and a Combined Saints junior footballer. Love and deepest sympathy from Suzy, Lincoln, Jez Connick Eddy. XOXO.”

Norwood Football Club released a statement last Friday confirming the tragic death.

“The club is devastated by his passing, and is thinking of his family, the playing group, coaches, and the wider Norwood Football Club community at this difficult time,” the statement read.

The SANFL said in its memorial statement: “The midfielder’s valuable contribution to Norwood Football Club and the SANFL men’s League in his short time playing in South Australia will always be remembered.”
