The Voice to Parliament referendum could change the landscape of Australia forever.

After learning how you can vote, here are the details of where you can vote across South Australia.

When is the referendum?

The Voice Referendum will be held on Saturday, October 14, with polling locations open from 8am to 6pm across South Australia.

Early voting begins two weeks earlier on Tuesday, October 3 with early voting centre locations progressively opening from this date to the lead up to referendum day.

Where can I vote on referendum day?

The AEC is currently working to confirm the finalised list of polling locations across South Australia, but The Advertiser has put together a list of all polling locations confirmed so far. This will be updated up to October 14.

What time do polling booths open and close?

Polling booths will open at 8am in South Australia and close at 6pm and are usually located in local schools, church halls or public buildings.

How do I fill out the ballot?

Voters will be required to answer the one question as either a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.

The answer will need to be written clearly, anything else – a tick, a cross or a word written in another language – are highly discouraged by the AEC as it said it can become a “judgment call as to the voter’s intent”.

When will the referendum results be announced?

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) has confirmed about four million ballots have already been cast at early voting centres.

Despite this, the AEC confirmed ballots won’t be counted before polls close and an outcome won’t be officially declared on the night of a referendum, in line with federal elections.

In fact, the AEC website states results could take up to 13 days.

According to the AEC:

■ Every ballot paper is counted by hand;

■ Counts for every polling place are conducted twice, to double check the results;

■ Every aspect of the count is open to be viewed by scrutineers;

■ Results will be uploaded to the AEC’s Virtual Tally Room as votes are counted, both on the night and in the days following voting day;

■ The AEC will only formally declare a result when it is mathematically impossible for any other result to occur.

Is voting on the voice compulsory?

Like any Federal or State and Territory Election, voting in a referendum is compulsory for all Australians aged 18 and over who have enrolled.

For anyone who chooses to not fill out a ballot, you risk a fine or a court date issued by the AEC.

Will I get fined? How much will I get fined??

If the last Federal Election penalties have not changed, a $20 fine would be received in the post.

Failure to pay in time could see it blow out to in excess of $200, alongside court fees.
