Fresh details have emerged about a workplace accident where a man was rushed to hospital after suffering burns at Monarto South.
The Advertiser can reveal the 40-year-old man was working at Australian Portable Camps and was attempting to put out a fire which started in a bucket by stomping on it, resulting in his leg catching on fire.
The man was rushed to hospital after suffering burns in the accident, with emergency services called to the business just before 10am last Wednesday after reports of the incident.
SA Ambulance said the 40-year-old man suffered burns to his legs and back.
A statement from Australian Portable Camps said the company was concerned by the incident.
“We are deeply upset that one of our workers has been injured in such a way,” the statement said.
“We are assisting SafeWork SA with their inquiries into this incident and we are providing support to the worker’s family.”
A SafeWork SA spokesman said they’d been notified of the incident and an inspector attended the site.
“We were notified and we have sent an investigator and inspector to make inquiries,” he said.
Australian Portable Camps’ website says it is a leading Australian provider of camp solutions aimed to meet specific project needs and individual site requirements.
The company made headlines in 2020 by producing converted shipping containers to help hundreds of families across Australia who lost their homes in the Black Summer bushfires.
The containers were transformed into temporary accommodation pods with power, running water, a kitchen and beds.
