Former Mongols bikie Anthony Wells jailed for assault on kidnapping victim taken to his home while he was on bail

A FORMER Mongols bikie bashed a kidnapped man because he was angry he had been brought to his home while he was on bail, a court has heard.

A FORMER Mongols bikie who bashed a kidnapped man will be eligible for parole within the month because of the time he spent in jail awaiting his trial.

On Wednesday, the District Court jailed Anthony Wells for two years and three months, with a 20-month non-parole period, backdated to his arrest in 2014.

Wells, whom the court previously heard had been kicked out of the Mongols Motorcycle Club, pleaded guilty to one aggravated count of assault.

He was arrested and charged alongside Simon James Murphy, 37, and Hayley Carter, 30, over an incident involving a man in his 20s whose identity has been suppressed.

Murphy and Carter each pleaded guilty to charges of kidnapping and aggravated assault arising from the incident at Morphett Vale just after midnight on August 26, 2014.

The court has previously heard Murphy had spent days arranging for another man to bring the victim to him before he was assaulted, tied up and taken to Wells’ home.

Police intercepted Murphy’s vehicle two hours later, finding the victim in the boot wrapped in a bed sheet with injuries including bleeding on the brain and a broken nose.

Wells admitted he had struck the victim out of frustration because he was angry he had taken brought to his Seaford Rise home while he was subject to bail curfew conditions.

In sentencing on Wednesday, Judge Simon Stretton said Wells’ criminal history ran seven typed pages and included convictions for drug trafficking, assault and burglary.

“You assaulted and injured a defenceless man,” he said.

“The victim no longer feels safe.”

Judge Stretton will sentence Murphy and Carter next month.
