Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong has announced multiple flights evacuating Australians from Israel will leave today from Tel Aviv.

Flights will be a mixture of government chartered and air force planes.

Senator Wong urged Australians wanting to leave Israel to take the first available option.

“Please do not wait for a different option,” she said.

The government was working with commercial carriers to arrange flights to assist travellers with their onward journeys, including from Dubai to Australia, she said.

Senator Wong also announced an initial $10m in humanitarian assistance for civilians affected by the conflict in Gaza. The aid will fund urgent needs such as medical support, emergency water, nutrition, sanitation and hygiene services.

Australia’s $10 million donation will go in part to the UN Children’s Fund and the International Community Red Cross and a component to UN operations to enable logistics.
