Flood advice warning for River Murray shacks between Cadell and Mannum

Water from heavy rain interstate is heading into SA, sparking a flood warning for shacks along a 130km stretch of the River Murray.

The SES has issued a flood advice message for shack areas between Cadell and Mannum on the River Murray.

High interstate rainfall flowing into the River Murray is likely to cause minor flooding in shack areas between Cadell and Mannum – and flows would increase, the SES said.

Areas that could be hit by flooding includes Morgan, Brenda Park, Scotts Creek, Walker Flat and Bowhill.

Flows into SA are likely to exceed 70,000ML a day in the coming weeks and are expected to remain high through October.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Tom Boeck said the water has gradually made its way down from the eastern states and would continue.

Mr Boeck said Adelaide had experienced a couple of wet days this week but the rain should ease into the weekend. But another system from the west would bring more wet weather from next Wednesday.

The SES advised people to prepare for flooding, moving items of value to a safe place and if it was safe, ensure drains and gutters were clear.

It comes as almost 300 campers had to rethink their plans as rising water levels along the River Murray closed all Riverland parks campgrounds from Monday until November 30.
