DOZENS of firefighters and water bombers have saved a house and a shed from a bushfire that burnt 250 hectares in the lower Mid North.

Country Fire Services issued a Watch and Act message for a grass fire at Stockport, about 7km west of Tarlee in the Wakefield Plains near Branson Rd, Range Rd and Alma Rd.

The fire broke out about 2.10pm on Monday and travelled in a west north westerly direction towards Owen Rd, Alma Rd and Boundary Rd.

More than 50 firefighters and four bombers stopped the spread of the stubble fire in just over an hour.

They actively defended a house and a shed containing equipment in the path of the bushfire.

As the fire may threaten the safety of locals, CFS has asked residents to follow their bushfire survival plan and leave when the roads were safe to travel.
