Fight between two men erupts on New Year’s Day as a police horse topples over

A police horse named Windsor and his rider became a victim of a New Year’s Day brawl at Moseley Square as they toppled over trying to break up a fight. Watch the video.

A beachside brawl on New Year’s Day involving multiple people resulted in the toppling of a police horse and his rider as they tried to break up the violence.

In the early hours of January 1 a fight between two people at Moseley Square in Glenelg erupted into an all out brawl involving multiple others and a police horse with its rider being left on the ground.

Police have released a statement following the incident.

“Early in the morning on Sunday 1 January, Police Horse Windsor and rider attended to an altercation in Moseley Square, Glenelg,” a police spokesperson said.

“Police horse Windsor lost his footing on a grate and rolled on his side, causing the rider to fall.

“The horse and rider did not suffer any injuries and resumed their duties.”

Footage posted to social media shows two people squaring off before one is slammed to the ground, prompting multiple others become involved in the melee.

A group of people are seen punching on, one on the on the ground before a two police mounted on horses arrive on the scene to break up the violence.

Police are appealing to anyone involved in the fight to make contact with authorities.

Meantime, two men have been arrested and a teenager has been hospitalised following violence in the CBD in the early hours of Monday morning.

At around 4am on Monday a brawl erupted after a scuffle escalated on Hindley St.

The teenager was taken by ambulance to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with facial injuries.

A 27-year-old from Parafield Gardens and 22-year-old man from Salisbury have been charged with aggravated assault.
