Federal MP’s office evacuated after suspicious brown powder substance found in envelope
A HAZMAT incident is currently unfolding at the office of a federal Liberal MP in the state’s southeast, after a suspicious substance was mailed to him.

The office of South Australian federal Liberal MP Tony Pasin has been evacuated after a suspicious brown substance was found in an envelope addressed to him on Wednesday.
Police and emergency services, including HAZMAT, were called to Mr Pasin’s office located at Commercial Street East, Mount Gambier just after 11:15 am.
Mr Pasin said the incident happened after a staff member opened an envelope containing a powdered substance.
“In accordance with AFP protocols, the appropriate authorities were advised and attended the office. The substance is currently undergoing testing,” Mr Pasin said.
“I take the health and safety of my team very seriously and I am grateful that initial assessments indicate no-one has suffered any harmful effects.
“I thank the first responders who acted quickly with diligence and professionalism.”
The building was evacuated and MFS were called to the scene to deal with the incident.
There are no reports of injuries and there is no risk to the community.
