The family of Sean Ferris, who was gunned down by police at Crystal Brook after stabbing two police officers, has released a statement.
The Ferris family released a statement on Friday, saying their thoughts and prayers were with the injured officers and their families, and alluding to Sean’s deteriorating mental health.
Ferris was shot dead by police at his Symons St home on Wednesday morning.
“Like all South Australians our thoughts and prayers are with the two police officers and their families during these difficult times,” the statement said.
“As a family our hearts are broken by the significant harm that occurred (on Wednesday).
“Mental health is an insidious disease and has the potential to create a devastating impact on families and our community.”
The family also released a photo of an unbearded Ferris.
“For now, our thoughts remain with the two officers, their families, the Crystal Brook community and the entire SAPOL family,” the family said.
“Please pass on our families’ prayers and thoughts to the families of the officers impacted during these difficult time.”
The statement was released via SA Police, however police said the statement had been prepared by the Ferris family with no involvement or advice from SAPOL.
Brevet Sergeant Jordan Allely and Brevet Sergeant Ian Todd had attended Ferris’ home to discuss issues with his dog, Buddy, who was at the centre of an animated outburst in the town’s main street on Tuesday.
