The devastated parents of a toddler who tragically died after being hit by the family car in a Tailem Bend driveway have paid tribute to their “happy and courageous” little girl.

Kyle Smith, 25, and Jasmine Carter, 24, say their 18-month-old daughter Izabella Gayle Ann Smith was perfect.

“She was the type of kid to make you feel special even if you are having a horrible day,” they told The Advertiser.

Little Izabella died on Saturday after she was struck by a silver Toyota Prado 4WD in the driveway of a High St property just after midday.

Mr Smith and Ms Carter were helping a friend move house at the time.

They immediately rushed Izabella to the Tailem Bend Hospital for treatment.

Despite the desperate efforts by doctors and paramedics to save the toddler, she sadly succumbed to her injuries just before 12.30pm.

As they mourned the loss of their daughter, Mr Smith and Ms Carter said they would remember Izabella as a happy, courageous and perfect little girl, who was also “adventurous, mischievous and determined”.

The couple said she would often “sneak outside with her gumboots in hand”.

“(She was) always trying to up her cousins and brother,” they said.

“(And she was always) cuddling up to you just because she can.”

Izabella was a younger sister to Mayson, 4.

The tragedy came just a week after a similar accident in Angle Vale.

A toddler - a little boy - was killed when he was run over by his family’s Toyota Prado in his family’s backyard on Saturday, June 29.

The SA Police Major Crash unit is investigating both accidents.

On Saturday afternoon, an Encounter Bay women, 57, was run over and seriously injured in her driveway by her own car when her toddler granddaughter released the handbrake.

She was flown to Flinders Medical Centre for treatment.
