EXPLOSIVE charges have been used to bring down 10,000 tonne boilers at Port Augusta’s Northern Power Station — see the extraordinary footage from all angles.
Specialist charge-cutting explosives were used to bring down the structures at 9am.
“While the boilers have been pre-washed and dust mitigation controls put in place, coal dust may be visible during and after the event,” Flinders Power said in a statement.
The dust has since settled onto the site.
Police enforced an exclusion zone around the plant and residents were urged to go to the designated public viewing area to see the demolition.
The Northern Power Station, in South Australia’s mid-north, began operations in 1985 and ended production of electricity in May last year.
Key parts of the power station including the turbine generator were demolished earlier this year.
