An angry Liberal voter interrupted Bill Shorten’s fire and brimstone, before a politically astute dachshund gave him a friendly hug, during a colourful visit to South Australia’s most marginal seat on Tuesday.
Mr Shorten was mid-flight on climate change action on Tuesday in Boothby when Michael Ded, 83, began to interject, yelling: “Where do you get the money from?”
Mr Shorten replied: “I tell you what, brother, we will stop giving tax subsidies to the top end of town.”
In Adelaide to support Labor’s Boothby candidate Nadia Clancy, Mr Shorten thanked volunteers as he said Australians were in a mood for change.
An Advertiser YouGov Galaxy poll this week had Ms Clancy trailing Liberal Nicolle Flint by six per cent on a two-party preffered basis.
However, Eva the democracy sausage dog finished off her state electoral candidate predictions – where she picks her “preferred candidate” from two dog bowls with a sausage in each – by picking Ms Clancy. Labor Senator Penny Wong took aim at Liberal MP Nicolle Flint for embarking on a “Flint sprint” from the media to avoid questions about why she supported Peter Dutton in last year’s leadership spill.
Earlier in the day, Ms Flint was joined by Scott Morrison in Morphetville to spruik the Coalition’s new housing deposit scheme.
“We’ve polices as I’ve already announced on the weekend and in the years prior to that which are helping first homeowners to buy their first home,” he said.
