Two people have been seriously injured, with one person in a critical condition, after a car slammed into a tree near Williamstown.

Emergency services were called to Yettie Rd just after 5pm on Thursday after reports a car – travelling north – had left the road and collided with a tree.

The driver, a 49-year-old Williamstown woman, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the passenger, a 19-year-old Williamstown man, was flown to hospital.

He remains in a critical condition.

Yettie Rd, near Needles Rd was closed in both directions, while Major Crash officers examined the circumstances that led up to the crash.

The road has since reopened.

It comes after a 36-year-old Lyndoch man was killed earlier this month just around the corner from where the Yettie Rd crash occurred.

The man was travelling on Williamstown Rd, Cockatoo Valley on February 13 just before 1.30pm when he hit a tree and his car burst into flames, leaving the vehicle destroyed.

The green Hyundai Excel was completely burned out while the right wheel and part of the suspension landed 30 metres away from where the car stopped.

Earlier on Thursday a car was involved in a single-vehicle collision on a busy road in the south-east of Adelaide, causing traffic delays in the area.

Emergency services were called to Glen Osmond Rd after reports that a car had crashed into a tree, just before 1.30pm on Tuesday.
