Sealink has cancelled all ferry trips to and from Kangaroo Island due to strong winds this morning.
The 9am, 10am, 12pm and 1pm trips from Cape Jervis are cancelled, with an update expected at 12.30pm.
The 8.30am, 10.30am, 11.30am and 1.30pm trips from Kangaroo Island have also been cancelled.
Gusts of 35 knots were recorded at Cape Willoughby and 26 knots at Kingscote just after 7am on Monday.
The cancellations come after wild weather brought down several trees across the metropolitan area on Sunday night.
A long, thin rainband smashed into the coast, bringing with it wind speeds estimated at 90-100km/h.
Lightning also started grass fires at Edinburgh and Virginia.
The Country Fire Service and State Emergency Service responded to numerous fallen trees.
At Goodwood and Banksia Park, trees fell on to houses while at Fairview Park a tree reportedly fell over the road and power lines.
Trees have fallen on to cars at Greenwith and Lightsview.
The Bureau of Meteorology had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of the Adelaide metropolitan area as well as much of the state ranging from the Yorke Peninsula to the Riverland.
The Bureau said wind gusts of 87 km/h were recorded at Parafield at around 5.15pm.
“A low pressure trough over central districts is moving eastwards, with associated thunderstorm activity and gusty winds,’ the Bureau said on its website.
“Severe thunderstorms may produce damaging wind gusts of 90 to 100 km/h in the warning area over the next several hours.
“Conditions will ease this evening in western parts of the warning area as the low pressure trough moves east. Locations which may be affected include Port Pirie, Clare, Murray Bridge, Gawler, Meningie, Jamestown, Karoonda, Keith and Burra.’'
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Secure or put away loose items around your property.
* Move cars under cover or away from trees.
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* Stay indoors, away from windows, while storms are nearby.
