A man who was threatened at knifepoint in a terrifying northern suburbs carjacking tracked the stolen car after hiding his phone under the seat during the ordeal.

Matt Lintern 38, was sitting in his car on Willison Rd, Elizabeth South, about 4am Monday when he was approached by four men in an orange coloured ute – one of whom threatened him with a knife.

“(A suspect said) Give us your keys, with a knife in his hands, saying they were going to stab me, I said no, and he stuck a knife through the window,” Mr Lintern told 7 News.

They drove off in the Holden sedan, but didn’t know Mr Lintern had slipped his phone under the seat.

Mr Lintern and his housemate used the Find My Phone app to track the car where it was dumped and abandoned on nearby Grately St at Elizabeth Grove.
