A two-storey house has been destroyed by flames in the early hours of Tuesday morning, with the cause of the fire said to be potentially suspicious.

About 1.30am, MFS received reports of a house fire on Sandleheath Road at Elizabeth Grove.

An MFS spokeswoman said the home was “well involved in flames” by the time their crews arrived.

Neighbour Jordan Martin said he spotted the fire about 1.30am while he was playing games.

“I got up to get a drink, I looked out the back window, as I usually do when I go out there just to make sure everything is all good out the back,” Mr Martin said.

“I (saw) red and blue lights, so I looked out a bit harder and I (saw) there was obviously water going over to the house so I didn’t think anything of it at first.”

Mr Martin said he proceeded to wake up his family after noticing something unusual past his backyard

“I realised that the house was on fire and I (saw) the smoke coming out of the roof and at that point I went out the back and obviously took a video,” he said.

“I just didn’t know what to do.”

He said the house had been empty and abandoned for about seven years.

“It frequently has been getting used by teenagers and that, just to run a muck,” he said.

“But apart from that, it’s a random incident that happened at the abandoned house.”

Mr Martin said he “hasn’t seen anything or anyone going in and out of the house” in the last couple of months.

The 21 firefighters from five appliances were able to extinguish the fire but no injuries were reported.

Fire investigators attended the scene and believe the cause of the blaze is potentially suspicious, with estimated damages set at $350,000.
