Syd Bailye was just metres away from his kitchen sink when a car ploughed through his front fence, crashing into the pergola and room he was standing in.

The 74-year-old had just finished mowing his back lawn when he came inside for a drink moments before the incident occurred.

“I was having a coffee and a biscuit and I heard a hell of a bang,” Mr Bailye said.

The car crashed into the brush fence on Sportsmans Drive at West Lakes just before noon on Monday. Emergency services attended the scene and took an elderly woman to hospital for observation. No serious injuries were sustained in the crash.

Mr Bailye said it was a scary experience.

“I was a few feet a way, it wasn’t a nice experience.

“I’m a bit upset about it … It will be thousands and thousands of dollars.”

In addition to his damaged fence, the car damaged the outer structure of his kitchen, all the pot plants in his front yard, and part of his pergola.

He has lived in the house for 40 years, and currently lives with his partner Marilyn who was not home at the time.

“You get it all nice and then this happens.”
