Claims that two young students were physically attacked by a relief teacher at a western suburbs primary school are being investigated by the Education Department.
The Sunday Mail has been told the students, in a Year 6/7 class, were struck by a male teacher at the school on Friday.
In a statement, a spokesman said the department was aware of the allegation.
“An incident has been reported to the department and an investigation will be carried out to establish the facts,” he said.
“All matters are dealt with in accordance with the robust processes in place for investigating and, where necessary, addressing alleged misconduct.”
It is understood the incident took place after the teacher asked the class to clean up the room and locked the door when students failed to comply.
A source close to the school said several students attended the school office afterwards, some visibly upset, and individually wrote down their accounts of what happened.
