Dredging up Bay seagrass
SEAGRASS blocking Glenelg Harbour will trigger dredging from Monday in an effort to keep the channel open.
DREDGING to keep Glenelg Harbour open will begin on Monday because seagrass is partially blocking the channel.
Department for Environment and Water coastal manager Dr Murray Townsend said this year’s winter weather had pushed large amounts of shed seagrass leaves into Glenelg Harbour.
“The dredging work will help maintain safe navigation in the harbour,” Dr Townsend said.
“We urge people to be careful when using the harbour until the build-up is cleared.”
The dredging is expected to be finished by late September.
