Die-hard McLeod’s Daughters fan and comedian Mitchell Coombs shocked by ‘snazzy renos’ at famous set

An Aussie comedian got the anniversary gift of his dreams with an overnight stay at the iconic McLeod’s Daughters homestead – but it looks a little bit different than how fans remembered it.

An Australian comedian’s boyfriend got him the anniversary gift of his dreams with a step back in time into early 2000s nostalgia.

McLeod’s Daughters was one of the country’s most successful TV dramas when it ended its eight-year run in 2009 – and Mitchell Coombs was treated to an overnight stay on the famous Barossa homestead where it was filmed.

The 135-acre Kingsford estate has been transformed into a themed bed and breakfast, and Coombs was shocked to see some of the ”snazzy renos”.

On entering the dining room, where many memorable laughs and tears were had between the show’s stars, he discovered a bedroom accommodation complete with a four-poster bed.

“How f***ing fancy is this?” he said on walking through the main doors.

“Sean, right there where you’re standing is where they put Claire’s coffin before the burial,” he told his partner of two years.

He was also delighted with a new extension to the mansion that now houses a “gorgeous” fine food restaurant.

“Can you believe that Meg’s apricot chicken is actually on the menu?” Coombs remarked to his bewildered partner.

But the famous windmill and shearer’s quarters pictured in the opening credits were gone, as was the tennis court, replaced by a heated pool.

Actress Michala Banas, who played Kate Manfredi on the show, commented on the video that the upgrades looked “fab”.

“Glad you enjoyed it all … Let us know if you get married there and we’ll get some of the gang back together and come,” she said.

A one-night stay at Kingsford The Barossa for two people can cost from $799 to more than $1400.

It boasts 16 suites, as well as a wine cellar, function room and even a bowling alley.

At its peak, McLeod’s Daughters was watched by 1.5 million viewers and won eight Logie Awards throughout its run.
