Customers had to be evacuated after a kitchen fire erupted at a Hungry Jacks restaurant in Elizabeth, leaving a whopper damage bill.

A kitchen fire has caused more than $200,000 damage and forced the closure of Hungry Jacks in Elizabeth – but its crew is being credited with averting a worse situation.
Multiple fire crews responded to reports of flames coming from the roof of the restaurant on Elizabeth Way about 12.06am Sunday.
An MFS spokeswoman said 12 appliances with 38 firefighters responded, and had the fire, which was “protruding from the rooftop”, contained within 30 minutes.
The fire was fully extinguished about 1.30am.

She said about eight to 10 staff were inside the restaurant but were safely evacuated without any injury.
Fire investigators determined the cause was an accidental oven fire ignition, starting in the broiler machine used to cook patties.
Despite being quickly extinguished, the fire caused about $200,000 damage – but $1.5m was saved.
