Cosi and daughter go off grid in search for mythical Tasmanian tiger
No internet, rationed food, creek water only. One of Adelaide’s most beloved TV personalities is on an epic adventure to get back to nature.
SA TV personality Andrew ‘Cosi’ Costello has plunged into the Tasmanian wilderness with his daughter in search of the quixotic and mythical Tasmanian tiger; though, with a greater goal at heart.
Cosi, his daughter and her boyfriend, and cameraman Mel left home on Thursday morning in a quest for what many social media commenters say is impossible, but was really an opportunity to disconnect from the world of technology and get back to nature.
Breaking the news on Thursday, the TV personality said he’d chartered a helicopter to “fly us across Tasmania” and “drop us into the most remote isolated part of the island”.
“When the chopper flies off we are alone. No one else. We won’t see a soul. Just my daughter. Her boyfriend and Mel our cameraman,” Cosi said in a post to his 191,000 Facebook followers.
“I understand 80 per cent of you will think I’m crazy. But this trips about teaching my daughter about nature, surviving in the wild, believing in something, not giving up, having a go, getting out of your comfort zone and maybe most importantly switching off for six days with no phones, internet and TV.
“I’m about to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature.”
Arriving in Tasmania on Thursday afternoon, Cosi provided a brief update saying: “It’s time for adventure”.
“See you in six days SA!!,” he said in a post. “No service. Nothing.”
Reconnecting with nature, Cosi promised to “have my eyes peeled walking hundreds of kilometres looking for the Tassie Tiger”.
“We will be surviving off rations and drinking from creeks. Diving for abalone and lobster. There’s one feeling I’m looking forward to most,” he said.
“The chopper company warned that if weather turns sour they cannot get us. We need to be prepared to stay up to seven days longer if that does happen.
“Wish us luck.”
