Adelaide, are you ready to feel the wrath of Karen’s Diner?
The notorious establishment, renowned worldwide for being rude to their customers, has revealed it will open its first Adelaide venue in November.
Karen’s slogans are “great burgers and rude service” and “don’t ask to speak to a manager!” – a play on the “Karen” meme.
The home of Karen’s Diner will be at 6 East Terrace in the city and will host patrons who are into a bit of sass and bad attitude.
Karen’s is an interactive diner where customers are greeted and waited upon by rude waiters and forced to play games.
Perk – if your name is Karen, you get a free drink.
Don’t expect special treatment at the diner, it’s all about embracing your inner Karen and letting the staff hit back.
With multiple stores across Australia as well as the UK, Karen is coming for SA.
However, recently Karen’s Diner has come under scrutiny online for going too far with their insults.
A video on TikTok from creator Bec Hardgrave detailed that the staff were making “offensive comments” about customer’s appearances.
According to the video, a staff member told a patron to “brush their hair” and told another they “looked too old”.
Cups were allegedly thrown at customers, and staff told a group of women to leave.
Things turned heated when a man in the video accused staff of “body shaming” and screamed at staff.
A Brisbane family was left shell-shocked following a “vulgar” exchange targeting their 14-year-old daughter in July.
The father was then referred to as a “paedophile” by the same waiter and told he was “keeping it in the family”.
Despite this, Karen’s Diner has a set of house rules for customers and staff to follow.
They include no racism, no sexism, no homophobic comments, no body image comments, no ableist comments, do not touch staff and no sexual remarks toward staff.
